The R1234yf coolant is an innovative new coolant that complies with the current statutory requirements for climate protection. Air conditioners that are filled with R1234yf coolant must additionally be filled with the equally new refrigeration lubricant Sanden SP-A2 in order to ensure optimum operation of the air conditioner. Both products are being used for the first time in the BMW i3. Sales features/benefits – The European Union passed a law which requires that, as of 1.01.2013, newly registered types of vehicles must use a coolant that has a proven GWP (Global Warming Potential) of less than 150. The GWP indicates how much a defined mass of a greenhouse gas contributes to global warming. – The R1234yf coolant, with a GWP of 4, will now be used for the first time in the BMW i3. Not only does it comply with European legislation, it is also especially environmentally-friendly. – In order to operate the air conditioners filled with R1234yf coolant optimally and with an absolute minimum of wear, the new refrigeration lubricant Sanden SP-A2 will be used for the first time. – The excellent compatibility of both products was tested and approved by BMW Development centres. Functionality Both products are filled into the coolant circulation system via a special air conditioner service device. The procedure is similar to that for filling R134a.
